local apps

apps already on your machine: imessage, contacts, notes, photos, calls, browser history, screen time, voice memos, and the chat histories of coding tools you use. the full list, one card per source, is on the import screen. macos asks you to grant full disk access before samskara can open those files. you grant it in system settings, and you can take it back in the same place.

exports and connected accounts

files you download from a service yourself and put in the import folder: instagram, snapchat, google (mail, calendar, photos, drive), spotify, whoop, apple health, chatgpt, claude, linkedin, twitter, and more - the full list is on the import screen. gmail can also be connected to your google account directly; that connection talks to google when you set it up. samskara reads a source only after you add it.

where your archive is stored

in a folder on your mac. by default that is a folder named .samskara in your home directory. you can choose another folder during setup, including one on an external drive. building the archive copies nothing off the machine.

what leaves your mac

by default, nothing. the model that writes answers is downloaded once and runs on your machine, so your question and the parts of your archive needed to answer it stay there.

there are four cloud paths, and each one is a choice you make per answer: your own api key for a cloud model, or the claude code, codex, or cursor tool already installed on your mac. when you pick one of those for an answer, your question, the conversation so far, and the snippets needed to answer it go to that provider, and only to that provider. the picker labels each of these rows with where the question goes before you send.

what never happens

• there is no account and no sign in.
• there is no samskara server. the app talks to your mac, and to a model provider only on answers where you picked a cloud row.
• there is no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting.
• nothing in samskara trains a model on your data. on a cloud model, that provider's own terms apply to what you send it.
• nothing reaches another person unless you export it yourself and send it.

it only reads

samskara opens your messages, mail, notes, and photos to read them. it writes nothing back to them. the originals stay exactly as they are, in the apps that hold them.

the feedback form on this site

what you type on the feedback page goes to this site's server log, which is where i read it. the email field is optional. leave it blank and the message arrives with no name on it.

uninstall

drag the app to the trash, then delete the .samskara folder in your home directory. that removes the archive. your originals stay where they always were.
